Xbox One X No Signal/Black Screen of Death Repair

No signal issues are by far the most common Xbox One X problem seen in our repair business. If you're experiencing this problem keep reading to find out what causes no signal issues and what to do about them; which might sending it in to us to be repaired. Let’s jump right in…

Xbox One X No Signal Issues

The Xbox One X Black Screen of Death or No Signal issue can appear in a couple of different ways:

  • When the console is connected to the display the screen will show as black with no picture or possibly black that fades to blue and then back to black.
  • When the console is connected to the display the screen will show a message saying “Game console (is it on?)” or something similar.

This problem is most commonly caused by a faulty hard drive or by an HDMI issue with either the HDMI port being damaged or one of the related chips on the motherboard not working correctly. However, the problem can also be caused by a damaged or dirty HDMI cord so you'll want to follow the steps below first before trying to repair the console itself.

If your console has no signal you should try the following steps first:

  1. Check that your HDMI cord is fully plugged into both the tv and console.
  2. Inspect the HDMI cord at both ends for damage or dirt and clean it carefully if needed.
  3. Try another using an HDMI cord you know works OR, if you only have one cord, try plugging in a different console to see if it works.
  4. Inspect the HDMI port to see if it is dirty or has anything stuck in it and clean out the port gently as needed.
  5. Check that the HDMI port is not loose.

If you've followed the steps above and your console still has no signal it will likely need to have the hard drive replaced OR one of the HDMI components.

Console Repairs

As mentioned above, the process of testing the hard drive and HDMI components is advanced and if you don’t feel comfortable with opening up your Xbox One X console and don't have access to the tools and parts required, it might be better to let an expert do it for you.

PS4 HDMI Port Fix

The HDMI port on the PS4 is a common weak point in this game console. HDMI ports are one of our very common repairs. These ports are very integral to the system since that is what the vast majority of people use to connect it to the TV.

PS4 Faulty HDMI Port Symptoms

Let's look at some common symptoms to bad ports:

  • If your PS4 turns on and the white light comes on but there is no picture on the TV...also known as the White Light of Death
  • Bent or broken pins inside the HDMI port
  • The TV might say "no signal" or something similar with the console hooked up via the HDMI cable
  • A crooked port or one that looks like it's been pushed in further than it should be

How to fix a PS4 HDMI Socket

The ports on these consoles can be extremely difficult to repair unless you have expert level soldering and electronics repair skills. They are soldered onto the motherboard with 4 main pins with lots of solder, then they also have 19 very small pins that also have to be soldered onto solder pads on the motherboard.

The only good and permanent fix for a bad HDMI port is to replace the entire port. Some of them just have pins that have been pushed back so they no longer make contact with the pins on the cable. Even though many times you can push these pins back, there is no good way to keep them there. The whole port needs to be replaced in order to fix this permanently.

We offer an HDMI port fix that is reliable. We have the experience to repair your PS4 correctly and quickly the first time. This is our most common repair and we have a great track record of a 99.5% success rate.
